On September 29, Spain's two biggest unions plan to stage a general strike to protest government economic policy. The main target of the unions' action are a 15-billion euro austerity package, a recent labour reform law and a planned shake up of the pensions system. While the strike is not expected to draw a full turnout of workers, it will represent a major test for a beleaguered Socialist government.
